This marks the start of the World of Safety & Health Asia effort in collaborating with industry subject-matter experts in curating important occupational safety and health information for easy access online.
MSA – The Safety Company is the first industry subject-matter expert partner who shares the same vision with WSHAsia in providing occupational safety and health information on its website for convenient access to everyone in the industry.
Between 2011 and 2018, 1,030 workers died as a result of workplace accidents involving confined spaces. The annual figures fluctuate between 88 in 2012 and 166 in 2017 (U.S. BUREAU OF LABOR STATISTICS, 2020). As confined spaces can occur in almost any occupation, identifying them is the first step in preventing fatalities. Because deaths in confined spaces are frequently caused by an oxygen-deficient, toxic, or combustible atmosphere, confined spaces that contain or have the potential to contain a serious atmospheric hazard should be classified as permit-required confined spaces and tested before entry as well as continuously monitored.
The risk of confining space is high, and only a few people fully comprehend it. MSA will be WSHAsia’s subject matter expert in sharing confined space solutions with the industry to ensure a safe confined space working environment.
