MSA – The Safety Company has joined the World of Safety and Health Asia in providing important occupational safety and health information online for easy accessibility by the industry
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
15 September 2021
This marks the start of the World of Safety & Health Asia effort in collaborating with industry subject-matter experts in curating important occupational safety and health information for easy access online.
MSA – The Safety Company is the first industry subject-matter expert partner who shares the same vision with WSHAsia in providing occupational safety and health information on its website for convenient access to everyone in the industry.
Between 2011 and 2018, 1,030 workers died as a result of workplace accidents involving confined spaces. The annual figures fluctuate between 88 in 2012 and 166 in 2017 (U.S. BUREAU OF LABOR STATISTICS, 2020). As confined spaces can occur in almost any occupation, identifying them is the first step in preventing fatalities. Because deaths in confined spaces are frequently caused by an oxygen-deficient, toxic, or combustible atmosphere, confined spaces that contain or have the potential to contain a serious atmospheric hazard should be classified as permit-required confined spaces and tested before entry as well as continuously monitored.
The risk of confining space is high, and only a few people fully comprehend it. MSA will be WSHAsia’s subject matter expert in sharing confined space solutions with the industry to ensure a safe confined space working environment. Established in 1914, MSA Safety is the global leader in the development, manufacture and supply of safety products that protect people and facility infrastructures. Many MSA products integrate a combination of electronics, mechanical systems and advanced materials to protect users against hazardous or life-threatening situations. The company’s comprehensive product line is used by workers around the world in a broad range of markets, including the oil, gas and petrochemical industry, the fire service, the construction industry, mining and the military. MSA’s core products include self-contained breathing apparatus, fixed gas and flame detection systems, portable gas detection instruments, industrial head protection products, fire and rescue helmets, and fall protection devices.
Hazards and controls, such as personal protective equipment (PPE), breathing protection, lockout, authorization procedures, and monitoring requirements, must be carefully evaluated and chosen. MSA has produced an informative Confined Space Decision Flow Chart, Permit for Entry Confined Space and numerous checklists that are remarkably beneficial to the industry.
Through this partnership, MSA and the World of Safety and Health will raise awareness to confined space hazards, which will help both industries and their stakeholders be safe. World of Safety and Health Asia welcomes MSA to a partnership and as a subject matter expert to extend and promote safety and health information that benefits everyone in the world.
