Launch of the Centre for Sustainable Development

Newcastle Australia’s Centre for Sustainable Development (CSD), a Centre of Excellence in Singapore and the Asia-Pacific region to deliver sustainable solutions in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Climate Resilience and Food Security, was launched on 4 January 2024.

The Centre was officially launched by Dr Charles Lee, the Director of CSD, at the Academy of Global Business Research and Practice (AGBRP) 18th conference hosted by Newcastle Australia.

The aim of establishing the Centre for Sustainable Development is to leverage on the University’s strengths in the areas of research, knowledge and action. It is guided by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, Singapore’s 2030 Green Plan and Zero Waste Masterplan, and the Singapore- Australia Green Economy Agreement.

An evening session was held in celebration of the launch at the Bugis Junction Towers campus, with over 80 attendees coming together.

The guest-of-honour, His Excellency Allaster Cox, the Australian High Commissioner to Singapore, said: “Working on these (sustainable) solutions are high priorities for both Australia and Singapore, and are playing an increasingly central role in our bilateral relationship and globally as we transition to a new future.”
