H4LO is an ‘at height’ safety awareness device worn [on the helmet] of MEWP operators and through 360-degree [spherical] technology detects any unintentional contact or entrapment hazards that is within 1.5m of the operator.
H4LO is unique in that it is not fitted or specific to any item of plant or equipment. This provides the operator a safer working environment by providing an advanced, auditable hazard warning while ascending, descending, reversing, slewing or reversing in proximity to any structural hazard.
In addition, the H4LO if fitted with side mounted, downward facing LED lighting arrays that provides continuous visual indicators and warnings that the unit is active and operating safely to all identified ground level supervisors.
Between 2016 and 2020 there were 84 people seriously injured and 73 killed in entrapment mishaps. These figures together with the increasing number of injuries and near miss events specific to
unintentional contact, crushing or entrapment underlines the need to find effective solutions. We believe these incidents could have been significantly reduced, even avoided by more thorough planning, selecting more appropriate access equipment and by using H4LO.
There are over 1.4million MEWPS, owned and currently held in global rental fleets. More than 90% of these are not fitted with any anti-entrapment device. Although MEWP manufacturers are starting to offer more anti-entrapment devices on new equipment, there is a heavy cost to install this option around $4,500 per unit. The Halo attachment has a list price of just $440 including the helmet, less than 10% of the cost. Most rental companies will have multiple manufacturers of MEWPS in their fleets, with different models and different ages too, This makes it unrealistic for rental companies to offer anti-entrapment on most of their fleets. Contractors looking to mandate the use of anti-entrapment devises on their projects have not been able
to guarantee availability of MEWPS with devices fitted, Until now.
We feel H4LO offers an affordable option that will allow all users of MEWPS to have an extra level of awareness when working at height.
