With over 23 years of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) experience across diverse industries, Lee Shyu Yuan is a recognised female safety influencer providing leadership at local and regional levels. Her qualifications and commitment enable her to deliver sustainable OSH outcomes while upholding sound business practices. She believes safety is ultimately about people and engage meaningfully with employees at all levels to foster trust, connection, and a safe, supportive environment. Her contributions have earned multiple external recognitions, including the WSHAsia Safety Influencer of the Year Award 2024. Beyond work, she is also active in industry network group and speaker in many professional seminars.

Lee Shyu Yuan demonstrated strong safety and EHS leadership through consistent delivery of measurable results.

The Malaysia site achieved a TRIR and LWD rate of 0.51, representing over 81% better performance than the Chocolate & Confectionery manufacturing. She led quarterly employee safety campaigns with 100% participation, strengthening engagement and accountability. As the first site in the Hershey network, she extended utility machine guarding assessments and achieved 100% gap closure. The site ranked Top 2 across the network for Industrial Hygiene Maturity Ladder, completing 100% closure. She introduced first launch of a digital Safety Engagement Tool on iPads, significantly improving hazard reporting and frontline ownership.

She also established a live EHS dashboard, enabling real‑time data visibility, trending analysis, and effective CAPA closure. The site completed a plantwide ergonomic CUP, ranking Top 5 in the network and achieving 100% Ergonomic Maturity Ladder Step 6. The site recorded zero EHS findings during SMETA audits. Achieved the highest number of enterprise and external Awards in Year 2025, which was 6, across safety, sustainability, and CSR which under her leadership.

Across the year, Lee Shyu Yuan leads the EHS team to designed the safety activities an execution, ensuring a structured and progressive approach to risk reduction.

In Q1, she organised EHS Fair with 100% plantwide participation which focusing on top three injury trends. In Q2, she designed and drove Life Saving Rules (LSR) general awareness sessions, achieving 100% participation via LMS and classroom engagement to reinforce critical behaviours and personal accountability. In Q3, she led the rollout of Global EHS LSR checklist observations with 100% participation, shifting the focus to on the job verification, leadership presence, and real time coaching at the shopfloor. In Q4, she spearheaded a hazard safety campaign with 100% participation, focused actions to strengthen hazard identification and control.

She is leading cross functional team to conduct utility machine guarding risk assessments and enable close 100% machine guarding findings as per risk assessment. Being the first in network, she has successfully introduced and launched Safety Engagement Tool, a digital safety observation tool that not only recognised unsafe/safe condition but also call out unsafe/safe behaviour.

Lee Shyu Yuan's ability to rally support and generate strong enthusiasm among stakeholders was instrumental to the success of the Quarterly Employee Safety Engagement Program. By clearly articulating the importance of safety and its impact on both individuals and the organisation, she consistently secured cross functional buy in across multiple levels of the business.

She applied data driven approach by leveraging prior year injury trends to design focused training sessions, hazard hunts, and engagement activities that directly addressed site specific risks, increasing relevance and effectiveness for employees. Beyond the organisation, she actively built and leveraged external networks to strengthen programme delivery, including collaborating with local authorities and other industrial network, safety and healthcare providers to enrich the EHS Fair with practical insights and resources. Her proactive engagement with employees—listening to their needs, involving them in solution design, and incorporating their feedback—fostered ownership, trust, and sustained commitment. Being recognised in 6 enterprise and external awards has validated her ability to influence others and consistently drive best in class.

Lee Shyu Yuan's leadership in the quarterly safety engagement programme played a key role in strengthening a strong culture of safety ownership across the organisation.

By consistently positioning safety as a top priority and actively engaging employees in safety initiatives, she fostered shared responsibility and accountability at all levels.Through tailored training sessions and targeted hazard hunts informed by prior year injury trends, she addressed specific risk areas and implemented focused preventive actions. This data driven approach significantly contributed to reducing incidents and injuries. Collaboration with local authorities and safety and healthcare providers further enhanced the effectiveness of the EHS Fair, providing employees with access to expert guidance, practical resources, and increased awareness of Occupational Safety and Health. In parallel, she extended the impact beyond the organisation by serving as a speaker at Singapore National Safety Council (NSC) network group and Malaysia nation-wide ergonomic seminars, where she shared their ergonomic initiatives and best practices with a broader industry audience.

Lee Shyu Yuan consistently demonstrate strong safety leadership by embedding safety as a priority across all operations.

She conducts regular safety audits and leads structured safety conversations, contributing to timely closure of corrective actions. Through persistent advocacy, she has driven the implementation of safety improvements at both local and regional levels, ensuring alignment with internal and external standards while upholding sound business practices. She participates in daily cross department direction meetings, enabling proactive risk management and business continuity. She has also implemented a digital safety engagement tool, increasing hazard reporting and frontline ownership.

As a result of these efforts, the Malaysia plant ranks among the Top 3 sites for safety culture scores across a 21 site network, reflecting strong employee engagement, leadership commitment, and disciplined execution. She continues to challenge the status quo and raise standards to sustain and further strengthen this performance. She actively extends her impact beyond the organisation as an active member in Federation of Malaysia Manufacturer Safety Committee & speaker in multiple network and seminars.
