About Tan Suan Boon
Currently, Tan Suan (Patrick) Boon is a WSH Manager in Singapore Telecommunications Ltd (Singtel) and an adjunct BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) and AED Instructor. He has been a Safety Influencer for his stakeholders since the day he embarked on his journey towards Workplace Safety and Health. With over 20 years’ experience as champion in Fire, Workplace Safety and Health at various industries, he continually seek to utilise his extensive knowledge, skillsets, and attributes to safeguard occupants within his duty of care.

The following contribution achievements were performed by Tan Suan Boon:
1.WSH initiatives:
Led in annual WSH events and collaboration with Singapore Red Cross Academy on CPR+AED skit performance and organised First Aid roadshow booths. Arranged monthly CPR+AED workshops, including sessions for subsidiary. Relocate and sized of AEDs for new operations while digitalising first-aider certification to track expiry and prompt for renewal.
2.Safety management:
Managed ISO45001, bizSAFE Partner, and STAR recertification while also facilitated ISO45001 internal and external audits and coordinated ISO14001 certifications.
3.Emergency preparedness:
Conducted annual emergency drills, led in-house CPR+AED practice sessions for Health Managers, and approved Permit-to-Work system for hazardous work.
4.Video production:
Directed an in-house CPR+AED awareness video with advisory from Singapore Red Cross Academy.
5.Environmental, Social, and Governance:
Participated in tree planting for marine biodiversity, recycling drives, and refurbishing electronics for needy families as part of environmental sustainability efforts.
6.Volunteer outreach:
Volunteered as an instructor for Singapore Heart Foundation in their Restart a Heart Day event, supported Singtel Carnival as student leader for special needs students, and participated in community recycling drive.

Recipient of Singtel Spot award.

1. Achieved high standards for WSH Management system
• Completion of ISO45001 surveillance audit (Oct 2024).
2. Annual WSH Day to promote WSH awareness
• Organised annual WSH Day at Serangoon North Hub to promote WSH awareness. Activities include exhibition on incidents, talks, interactive activities booths, and skit performance. Attended by top management and staff (July 2024).
3. Recognition of Good WSH performance of contractors at Singtel Safe Contractor Accreditation (SCA) Awards event
• Organised the SCA award event to recognise efforts and encourage contractors to uphold good WSH standards and practices, safeguarding the safety and well-being of their employees (July 2024).
4. Participation in WSHC TWSH programme
• Completion of the 4th TWSH programme with ProAge, WSHC’s TWSH service provider.
5. Adoption of digitalisation for better WSH outcomes
• Implementation of electronic Permit-to-Work system. The new format improves governance and work productivity with better monitoring of work activities and faster processing time of the permit applications (Dec 2024).
6. Production of Singtel CPR+AED response video, awareness workshop to support the vision of building a nation of life savers
• Video reference material and organised monthly CPR+AED workshop for general staff to promote lifesaving skills for emergency preparedness (2024-2025).

Tan Suan Boon's influencing capability has been integral to the successful implementation of the WSH initiatives. Through effective communication and stakeholders’ engagement, he ensured the completion of the ISO45001 surveillance audit in October 2024, maintaining high standards for the WSH Management System. He inspired active participation during the Annual WSH Day in July 2024 by designing interactive activities such as exhibitions, talks, and skit performances, garnering the support of both top management and staff.
To recognise and encourage contractors, he collaborated with his team to organise the Singtel Safe Contractor Accreditation Awards in July 2024, fostering a culture of good WSH practices. His advocation for technology and innovation led to the adoption of an electronic Permit-to-Work system in December 2024, enhancing the governance, monitoring, and productivity. In addition, he also worked with his team to drive the completion of the 4th Total WSH programme with ProAge, which emphasises a holistic approach to Workplace Safety and Health.
Lastly, he championed emergency preparedness by producing the Singtel CPR+AED response video and organising monthly CPR+AED awareness workshops, instilling lifesaving skills among staff. These efforts reflected his ability to influence collaboration, drive innovation, and cultivate a strong safety culture within the organisation.

The initiatives Tan Suan Boon implemented had a great impact on the WSH management and performance of his workplace and the community. The adoption of the electronic Permit-to-Work system changes our governance and streamlined work activities, enhancing efficiency and safety monitoring. Through the ISO45001 surveillance audit and Total WSH programme with ProAge, he reinforced compliance and a holistic approach to Workplace Safety and Health, elevating standards beyond the industry norms.
The Annual WSH Day and Singtel Safe Contractor Accreditation Awards fostered an environment of awareness and collaboration. These events engaged top management, staff, and contractors, encouraging shared responsibility for safety practices and improving overall safety culture. The production of the Singtel CPR+AED response video and monthly workshops empowered employees with lifesaving skills, aligning with the national vision of building a nation of lifesavers.

Guided by their COMMIT values, his role revolved leading examples and implementing WSH strategy with 5 key objectives.
1. Excel in WSH Management:
Coordinates with stakeholders on ISO45001 audits, and recertification of bizSAFE Partner and STAR status.
2. Build a WSH committed and competent workforce:
Published quarterly safety bulletins, plan drills and annual safety event, organising CPR+AED awareness workshops to empower staff with knowledge and lifesaving skillset, sizing of Health Managers seating arrangement and FIT mask testing for outdoor personnel.
3. Foster collaboration and partnership to synergise WSH efforts:
Plan Safe Contractor Accreditation event and collaborating with contractors for outdoor Remote Monitoring System deployment.
