Outline the Workplace Safety and Health initiatives that have been implemented by you in your workplace in 2024.

In 2024, while managing multiple construction projects, Ragesh Raghavan identified a gap in evaluating and comparing Health, Safety, and Environmental performance of contractors across sites. Without a standardised system, senior management struggled to track compliance effectively, making it difficult to identify safety risks and ensure consistent safety standards. He was tasked with creating a system to evaluate HSE performance and present the data for easy comparison. The goal was to provide clear metrics that highlighted strong performance and areas for improvement. He developed an Excel-based HSE evaluation system with a detailed checklist for site inspections, covering safety protocols, incident tracking, and corrective actions. Each site’s performance was ranked, and he compiled the data into a monthly report for senior management. The report provided clear comparisons across projects, enabling leadership to identify trends and address underperforming sites. He ensured the system was adaptable yet consistent across different projects. The system improved transparency and accountability in HSE compliance, enabling senior management to quickly assess performance and take prompt action. As a result, safety compliance across all projects improved by 30%, with faster resolution of safety issues and stronger overall performance in safety and risk management.

To drive adoption, he provided structured guidance and training, making the system user-friendly and adaptable to different project needs. He also maintained open communication, addressing concerns and refining the system based on feedback. This collaborative approach fostered a culture of continuous improvement and ownership among project teams. As a result, the initiative led to a 40% improvement in safety compliance, faster issue resolution, and enhanced decision-making at the leadership level.
