About Jena Manasa Prasad
Jena Manasa Prasad working as a registered Safety Officer (Senior Workplace Health and Safety Officer) at Obayashi Singapore Private Limited. He is leading the safety and health environmental aspects at the DC Tuas Project (Singtel Data Center). Currently he is pursuing his Master of Science in Safety and Health at Leeds Beckett University. He is a very passionate and diligent safety officer who wants to change the mindset towards safety of workers and management. Jena Manasa Prasad's project has maintained zero workplace fatalities, zero authority demerit points, an Accident Frequency Rate (AFR) of 0.63, and an Accident Severity Rate (ASR) of 22.17. He conducted 300 task-based safety training sessions, 100 safety meetings and briefings, and 150 safety promotions. These efforts improved safety performance and worker behaviour through reduced incidents, better compliance, enhanced safety awareness, and positive feedback from workers and supervisors. He conducted personal development trainings for all site personnel to comply with safety standards at the site. He achieved SHARP award for the project in 2024 by WSH Council Singapore.

- Effective communication: Starts with morning mass toolbox meetings for 1200 workers and explores training on various safety topics. Ends with coordination meetings and feedback sessions with site personnel on safety.
- Demonstrating commitment: Leading by example and showing a personal commitment to safety can inspire others to follow suit. This includes adhering to safety protocols, participating in safety drills, and being proactive in identifying and addressing potential hazards.

His initiatives include:
- Implementation of advanced monitoring systems for real-time safety metrics such as Evercam, Ailytics AI cameras, and instant feedback via anonymous feedback channels such as QR Codes.
- Use of digital platforms for streamlined communication among stakeholders, namely datatouch, datascope site document, Autodesk construction cloud, use of evercam, etc.
- Conducted pre-mobilisation inspection of machineries prior to entering the site to ensure only site-worthy equipment and machineries are mobilised to the site.
- Conducted weekly PPE conformance to standard (ANZI, Singapore standards, IEC, NFPA70E) checks.
- Enforced 10-year-old machinery requirement through contracts where mobilisation of construction equipment that is more than 10 years old requires approval from project management.
- Prohibited A-frame ladders on site and implemented a "ladder last" policy where the use of ladders shall be the last resort.
- Conducted pre-emptive safety pauses (briefing of incidents as they happened across Singapore) and conducted reviews on site. Jena Manasa Prasad believes a strong communication skill is important as he clearly conveys safety messages and listen actively to concerns and feedback. Knowledgeable and competent by having so much safety training and knowledge of local standards and practices makes him lead with facts and credible information. He also leads by example as he sets a visible standard and goal for others. He believes positive attitude is also important as he promotes a culture of safety without fear or blame and encourage open conversations about safety. Approachable and supportive is important as he builds trust and rapport with the site team and make the workforce feel comfortable discussing safety issues. He always provide guidance and mentorship. Lastly, he is proactive and observant as he always tries to identify hazards before incidents happen and always give suggestions for improvements for safer work environments.
