Outline the Workplace Safety and Health initiatives that have been implemented by you in your workplace in 2023.

In 2023, I spearheaded several Workplace Safety and Health initiatives at my workplace, a steel manufacturing facility. Recognising a high incidence of hand injuries, I focused on developing a comprehensive strategy to mitigate this issue. First, I established a hand safety team comprising frontline supervisors and assembly team members, tasked with identifying and addressing the root causes of hand injuries. Together, we conducted thorough investigations into past incidents to ensure that corrective measures remained effective.
Additionally, we conducted assessments of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) gloves to ensure proper cut levels were utilised during operations. Pinch point assessments were conducted across all assembly processes, with hazardous areas clearly marked for easy identification. Furthermore, comprehensive hand safety training sessions were developed and delivered to educate all team members on the importance of proper PPE usage and the identification of pinch points.
Lastly, we implemented visual aids such as posters highlighting specific PPE glove types for various processes and work areas. As a result of these initiatives, we achieved a remarkable 90% reduction in overall hand injuries within a 12-month period, demonstrating the effectiveness of our proactive approach to workplace safety.
