About Prasetya Arif Wibawa
I am Prasetya Arif Wibawa, 32 years old and delighted to represent Indonesia. My family, which includes my amazing partner and our two wonderful children, is the driving factor behind my passion for Workplace Safety and Health. My career in safety and health is motivated by a desire to make workplaces safer and better for all. I am currently employed as the HSE Superintendent at Harmoni Panca Utama, PT. (HPU), a private Indonesian mining services firm.
List the Safety and Health achievements/contributions you have achieved in 2023.
In 2013, I began working in training management for a mining company. Standard operating procedures, work control, and the development of safe work practices are just a few of the K3 projects and activities that I oversaw. Along with managing contractor safety management systems, conducting audits and inspections, implementing behaviour-based safety measures, managing emergency management, and investigating incidents. I also offer OSH training. In addition, I oversee and manage HSE officers and field K3 representatives. I find immense inspiration in the potent force of education and consciousness. I started making an attempt to become more knowledgeable about OHS by going to lectures and workshops and talking to professionals in the subject. This exercise opened my eyes to the vast amount of knowledge and tools available for creating a safer workplace. I am a great believer that knowledge is the cornerstone of change, and I want to help spread this knowledge to prevent accidents and injuries.
In 2023, the firm where I work earned a zero-accident award from the Ministry of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia. I also received a safety superintendent award at the 1st Indonesian Mining Safety Summit 2023, which was held by Asosiasi Profesi Keselamatan Pertambangan Indonesia (APKPI).
Outline the Workplace Safety and Health initiatives that have been implemented by you in your workplace in 2023.
As a safety officer and proponent of positive change, my motivation stems from a straightforward but profound conviction: every person has a right to work in an atmosphere where health and safety are given first priority. My goal in this journey is to truly improve the lives of employees and their families, not just to gain accolades. By working together, we can establish a workplace that is safe, supportive of everyone's wellbeing, and productive as well. It has been an eye-opening and life-changing experience for me to advocate for others to put safety and health first. I've gained invaluable knowledge over the years about the influence of advocacy and the value of teamwork in establishing a safer workplace.
In keeping with the millennial aesthetic, I am a constant advocate for safety since it is a matter of caring about human life. Leading by example is one of the most crucial things I've learned. I have to live by these safety and health-promoting values myself before I can encourage others to do the same. I pledge to always use the proper Personal Protection Equipment, follow safety procedures, and uphold best practices. I lower my personal risk by doing this, and I also give my peers and coworkers a credible and positive example.
Describe and support in detail on how your influencing capability has assisted in the successful implementation of these initiatives.
I came to see that only adhering to safety regulations was insufficient; I also needed to actively interact with people and promote candid conversation about safety-related topics. I began by bringing up topics of conversation at team meetings, telling stories about safety, and inviting people to contribute their ideas and experiences. By fostering a sense of accountability and ownership among team members, this strategy puts safety first.
In addition, I adopt a holistic approach to working with the families of my employees so that they may assist them in working securely and healthily at work, as work is worship and worship has no negative effects. I will keep repeating this to the family of the employee: by taking workplace health and safety seriously, we have made a life-saving investment.
Describe and provide support on how your initiative impacted the Safety and Health management and performance of your workplace/community/industry that was above and beyond.
I had to overcome a number of obstacles that put my commitment and will to the test. Even though they were occasionally challenging, these obstacles ultimately made me more determined to have a positive influence in the field of Occupational Safety and Health (K3). Opposition to change in organisations is one of the biggest problems I have encountered. It takes patience to persuade management to invest in safety measures and adopt new safety practices. Getting comfortable is another problem. It's easy to grow complacent about safety precautions in companies where accidents are rare. Thus, it will lead to a sense of disregard for minor details that affect workplace health and safety. As a result, developing a proactive safety culture at work requires sustained commitment.
Finding the ideal balance between safety and productivity is a constant struggle. Safety precautions that are thought to impede productivity are occasionally met with resistance. I must stress that safety precautions eventually lead to higher production and efficiency.
It has been a fulfilling journey to overcome these challenges, and it confirms my opinion that any effort made to increase workplace safety is worthwhile. I've learned a lot from these challenges about adaptability, resilience, and the value of being patient and persistent when trying to influence changes in OSH both inside and outside of the workplace.
In your opinion, what are the attributes of a safety influencer? Do share with us on how you have demonstrated these attributes in your daily work that will earn you the recognition of a WSHAsia Safety Influencer Award Winner in your workplace/community/industry.
A safety influencer is someone who has the capacity to create a successful safety culture within a company, based on my description of my work in the organisation above. This can be accomplished by encouraging the team to act safely, providing excellent safety leadership, and communicating well.
In addition to being cool under pressure, experts in the subject matter, and capable of motivating and guiding employees, safety influencers also possess these qualities. In addition, I truly feel that mentoring has the capacity to influence safety in the future, thus mentoring the next generation is equally necessary. I plan to mentor and assist young professionals interested in Occupational Safety and Health in the upcoming years. I want to inspire a new generation of safety advocates who will be able to continue the passion and push for good change by sharing my experience, expertise, and insight.
Furthermore, environmental management and sustainability are strongly tied to workplace safety. In order for our children and grandchildren to continue to enjoy the benefits of our labor in the future, I will integrate environmental considerations into safety initiatives and promote a holistic approach to safety, particularly in mining work areas, with operational safety from an environmental perspective.
To sum up, safety has no boundaries, and I am eager to take my work worldwide. I will be able to obtain a wider perspective and support international safety initiatives by working with leaders and specialists in the Occupational Safety and Health industry. By working together, we can exchange best practices and address global issues. My steadfast dedication to enhancing workplace safety, health, and sustainability forms the foundation of my future safety and health promotion objectives. I firmly think that we can advance the struggle for Occupational Safety and Health and and make the world a better place for everyone by means of lobbying, innovation, cooperation, and education.
