Outline the Workplace Safety and Health initiatives that have been implemented by you in your workplace in 2023.

The two key initiatives implemented by Yi Hong include – Blk Handover Workflow between Contractors and Integrated Aluminum Formwork with Support System & Platform.
The fundamental of the Blk Handover Workflow is to instill accountability and responsibility for the involved subcontractors for their respective working floors prior to the deployment of the next subcontractor for subsequent work. The typical problems encountered include excess rubbish not being cleared and defects not being rectified after the completion of work. This will directly cause work disruption during the deployment of the next subcontractor for work. By setting up key parameters such as minimum floor between construction to be handed over and coverage areas, subcontractors have to hand over the floor prior to the commencement of work for the subsequent floor.
Integrated Aluminum Formwork with Support System & Platform aims to provide an integrated solution to replace the conventional method for the construction of multi-storey carpark structure columns. With this initiative, safety risk exposure such as unsafe working at height, excessive manual handling, and prolonged exposure to working under hot weather can be mitigated significantly.

Describe and support in detail on how your influencing capability has assisted in the successful implementation of these initiatives.

The key attributes for the successful implementation of the initiatives include – designing the work process from the worker's point of view and encouraging WSH participation from all levels.
Yi Hong started by developing an effective communication platform for different levels within the project site where dialogues and information are shared. With that, he can understand the problems encountered from the workman's point of view, where a clear and practical solution can be established to address the problems encountered on site.
Yi Hong also actively reached out and engaged with all stakeholders in the organisation to encourage WSH participation and involvement efforts. He played an essential role in influencing and aligning the top management perspectives on risk management enhancement.
After establishing the work processes and solutions, he took the lead and spearheaded the implementation of these initiatives. He also works closely with the project team to monitor any further improvement that could be made to the initiatives.

Describe and provide support on how your initiative impacted the Safety and Health management and performance of your workplace/community/industry that was above and beyond.

The successful implementation of the initiatives by Yi Hong tremendously reduces the safety and health-associated risks exposed by the workers and directly leads to a positive impact on WSH performance on site.
The implementation of the Blk Handover Process improves the overall housekeeping on site. Any excess rubbish generated during the construction work phase is cleared prior to the deployment of the next subcontractor for work. This significantly reduces any associated risks such as slipping, tripping, and falling and improves the overall housekeeping standards on site. The need to deploy additional workers to clear up any built-up rubbish towards the end of the project can also be avoided due to the processes.
The implementation of Integrated Aluminum Formwork with a Support System and Platform comprises modular column formwork with an integrated platform to allow workers to construct the MSCP column safely. Associated safety risks such as working at height and prolonged work under hot weather conditions are mitigated significantly.
Outside of my workplace, my advocacy for women in HSE has had a ripple effect within the broader community and industry. Through speaking engagements, mentoring programmes, and networking events, I have empowered aspiring female professionals to pursue careers in safety and health management. This has not only contributed to the personal and professional development of individuals but has also enriched the talent pool within the industry, leading to greater innovation and resilience in addressing safety challenges.
Overall, my initiative to champion diversity and inclusion in HSE has resulted in tangible improvements in safety and health management and performance, both within my immediate sphere of influence and across the wider community and industry. By harnessing the unique perspectives and talents of all individuals, regardless of gender, we have been able to achieve safety outcomes that are truly above and beyond expectations.
