About Bui Ngoc Kien
I am Kien, from Vietnam. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering from the University. Returning to my hometown, where the largest Refinery and Petrochemical Plant project (Nghi Son Refinery & Petrochemical - NSRP) in Southeast Asia was being constructed, I joined the project as an HSSE Supervisor. It was here that I began my journey of learning to become a professional HSSE Officer within the construction phase of the project, under the guidance of the largest Construction Company participating at the time.
Through this experience, I honed my skills and eventually transitioned into the role of an HSSE Manager, overseeing significant projects such as the Nghi Son 2 Thermal Power Plant (NS2PC) project, VPL Nearshore Wind Power Plant project, Biological Pond System project, Defect Confirmation Shutdown Maintenance 2019, and the 1st major Turn Around 2023 of the Nghi Son Refinery & Petrochemical Plant in Vietnam. In these roles, I functioned as both an HSSE Manager and Leader.
Currently, I am back at the plant where I began my HSSE career, working as an HSSE Officer. My passion for HSSE drives me to learn and grow professionally every single day.

It was a pleasure to receive a Certificate of Recognition for valuable contributions to the overall HSSE performance during the 1st major Turn Around at Nghi Son Refinery & Petrochemical Plant (NSRP).
Outline the Workplace Safety and Health initiatives that have been implemented by you in your workplace in 2023.
I conducted a Hand Safety Campaign for the company to enhance the workforce's awareness of the importance of hands in human life. This campaign significantly contributed to the safe completion of the 1st major Turn Around in 2023 at the Nghi Son Refinery & Petrochemical Plant.
I prepared and hosted a safety skit to illustrate Line of Fire and Stored Energy hazards. As a result, we had no incidents related to Line of Fire and Stored Energy in 2023, contributing to 3 million Safe Man-hours at the NSRP Plant.

I work very amiably and kindly with workers. What I share with them comes from the heart of someone who genuinely loves their HSSE career. I ensure they are aware that safety is everybody's responsibility and that the HSSE team is always there to support them.
In your opinion, what are the attributes of a safety influencer? Do share with us on how you have demonstrated these attributes in your daily work that will earn you the recognition of a WSHAsia Safety Influencer Award Winner in your workplace/community/industry.
The key attributes of a safety influencer are as follows: Firstly, passion in your career, which I strongly advocate for. Secondly, being hardworking and providing kind support to others. Next, possessing knowledge and experience in the field. Lastly, having the courage to raise safety issues or concerns with your manager for discussion and determining the way forward.
